Optimist Leadership Award

The purpose of this $200 award is to recognize and encourage the development of leadership skills for the youth in our community. The intent is to give this award to one 11th grader (junior status) from each of the five Farmington area high schools, Farmington, Harrison, North Farmington, Alternative Academy and Mercy.

Qualifying for this award will require the student to be nominated by school personnel. Nominees will be required to complete a brief questionnaire describing their strengths as a leader and how the leadership role has changed or impacted their life. School personnel will make the final selection based on familiarity with the student's contributions in a leadership role.

The award will be presented to the student at a May meeting of the Farmington-Farmington Hills Breakfast Optimist Club. All nominees will receive a special certificate congratulating them for being nominated. Each winner will be invited to give a brief talk about his/her accomplishments and how they plan to use the money for their leadership skills. Publicity will include local newspapers, school publications and yearbook recognition.

The Farmington-Farmington Hills Breakfast Optimist Club continues to share a love for our community and a special interest in the young people who reside and go to school here. We believe in developing optimism as a philosophy of life, promoting an active interest in good government and aiding and encouraging the development of youth. Our motto is "FRIEND OF YOUTH."

The monetary awards are made possible through the Farmington-Farmington Hills Breakfast Optimist club's Annual Junior Golf Tournament held each June.
